Description

For decades, vehicle accessories – whether spoilers, suspensions, steering wheels or seat belt systems – were often placed on the market with a so-called parts certificate. However, this seemingly simple solution for registration had serious disadvantages: Vague requirements, changing standards, recalls of certificates and retroactive disallowances of registrations – often to the detriment of the end customer.

With the introduction of part type approval (TTG) by the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), this chapter is now coming to an end. From June 20, 2025, the TTG will apply as a mandatory approval procedure for many accessories and tuning parts. Companies that place vehicle parts on the market must therefore meet the same requirements as vehicle or system manufacturers – including initial assessment and full type approval procedure.

This training course gives you a practical insight into what is changing – and how you can now successfully adapt your company to the new requirements.

Learning Goal

After the training:

  • Understand the background and objectives of the new part type approval
  • know the differences to the previous procedure with parts certificates and § 19.3 approval
  • know how to correctly interpret the requirements for manufacturers and distributors
  • know the formal requirements for an initial assessment at the KBA
  • you are able to align your processes and quality management with the new procedure
  • you have a clear understanding of how you can replace existing appraisals in a future-proof manner
  • you can use the TTG as an opportunity for market positioning – through legally secure and reliable product approvals

Content

  • Development from parts certificate to parts type approval – review and causes
  • Overview of the new TTG: structure, process and parties involved
  • Requirements for manufacturers/distributors: initial assessment and QM system
  • Difference TTG vs. § 19.3 Modification approval vs. ABE
  • Documentation and verification requirements
  • Step-by-step to a successful TTG
  • Tips for efficient and fast implementation
  • Outlook: TTG as a strategic tool in competition

Group of participants

This training is aimed at:

  • Specialists and managers from development, homologation and quality assurance
  • Responsible for product conformity and product safety
  • Employees from sales, marketing and aftermarket
  • Manufacturers and distributors of vehicle parts
  • Technical services, testing organizations, certification bodies

Formats

The training is designed as a one-day intensive format and can be booked as an open event or in-house version.

For in-house training courses, we are happy to adapt the content to your requirements – ideal for product groups, company processes or target markets.

Conclusion

At the end of the training course, you will complete a short learning success check. This is used for internal quality assurance and your personal reflection. You will then receive a certificate documenting the qualification you have acquired.
